Manufacturing & Wholesale Trade First Quarter 2010 Financial Report

U.S. manufacturers after-tax profits increased in the first quarter of 2010 from both the fourth quarter of 2009 and the first quarter of 2009. Durable goods manufacturers performed better than non-durable goods manufacturers during the quarter.

Wholesalers were profitable in the first quarter of 2010, versus a loss in the first quarter of 2009. However, wholesaler profitability was down in the quarter compared to the fourth quarter of 2009.
