Legionella is a bacteria found in water systems that, when it grows and spreads, can cause Legionnaires’ disease, a serious type of pneumonia.
Residents of senior living facilities are especially susceptible to Legionnaires’ disease, so it is vital that organizations implement and maintain an effective water management plan to identify building water systems that need control measures, and to put mitigation efforts in place to prevent the growth and spread of Legionella.
