Recruitment Technology: The Evolution of Interviews
It’s hard to believe that at one point in time interviews didn’t even exist. Many years ago, jobs were typically inherited, passed down through generations. People were born into their career paths. Today most organizations, M3 included, have adopted a traditional interview process involving a combination of face-to-face and phone interviews.
Streamlining the Interview Process
M3’s Human Resources team invests an unbelievable amount of time screening candidates through phone interviews. Although it remains an important and necessary part of our interview process, we started to research technologies that could help streamline this process. We discovered a solution in a new video interviewing platform.
You might wonder how video interviewing works. It’s actually pretty easy and only involves three steps:
- First, M3’s HR team builds out interview questions and sends out invitations to the potential candidates.
- The candidates record their responses using a computer webcam or the software’s mobile app. (If the candidate experiences any issues, they have access to 24/7 technical support.)
- Once the candidate is done recording their answers, we receive an email notification. We are then able to review and evaluate the recorded interview, and even share it with other key individuals in the hiring process.
The Benefits of the New Recruitment Technology
Piloting this new technology when recruiting our 2017 Summer Interns and M3YOU Business Insurance Associates, we experienced the benefits immediately. It saved time, providing flexibility and empowering candidates to record their response at a time that worked best for them. In turn, the M3 HR staff was able to review candidates’ responses when it was convenient. It eliminated the need to shuffle busy schedules in order to coordinate the initial phone screening interviews.
The interviews were consistent, creating a fair interview process in which all candidates answered the same questions under the same conditions. This ensured everyone had an equal opportunity to put their best foot forward.
The software’s customization tool also allowed M3 to share company information such as videos, testimonials, pictures and our strategy map – leaving a memorable impression of our company culture with each candidate.
At M3 we recognize that, as the interview process continues to evolve, staying on top of the latest HR technology trends will be important as we continue to search for and connect with top talent. We’re on it.
