Individual Health Open Enrollment for 2022 Coverage

Personal Lines

It’s that time of year again – open enrollment for 2022 individual health plans has begun!

Each year, the health coverage marketplace has an open enrollment period for individuals, which is the specific window of time in which you can change your coverages or sign up for a new plan.

When is open enrollment for 2022 individual health coverage?

For 2022 coverage, the open enrollment period is November 1st, 2021 to January 15th, 2022.  Any changes you choose to make to your plan selections before December 15th, 2021 will go into effect January 1st, 2022, while any changes made between December 15th and January 15th will go into effect February 1st, 2022.

If you miss the open enrollment period, you may have to wait until the following year to change your plan, unless you qualify for a special enrollment period (i.e. if you lose job-based coverage, have a baby, get married, or have other life changes).

What can I do during the open enrollment period?

If you already have an individual health plan, you can…

  • Change your plan or coverage selections
  • Choose to keep your same plan
  • Report life changes (like a move or change in income)
  • Cancel your current plan

If you don’t have a health plan yet, you can…

  • Compare plans to see what best fits your needs
  • Choose an individual health plan

The individual health insurance marketplace can be complex, and even a bit tricky. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed by the options available to you, or confused by the terms and conditions that may come along with your coverage.

Working with an advisor who specializes specifically in the individual healthcare marketplace can bring you peace of mind.
