Medicare coverage is personal, and changes to your plan can impact your health, budget and peace of mind.
The M3 Elevate team is here to help you stay informed about industry-wide adjustments to Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage in 2026.
As new federal regulations continue to reshape the Medicare landscape, count on our trusted advisors to help you understand what’s changing, what it means for you, and what steps to take next.
What’s Changing
Many Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D plans from private insurers are being discontinued, potentially affecting more than a million beneficiaries nationwide.
Several insurers, including Elevance, Aetna, and UnitedHealthcare, are scaling back their offerings or exiting certain markets altogether. These adjustments are largely due to the ongoing Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) updates that affect plan design, reimbursement rates, and carrier participation.
If your Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part D plan is discontinued, you’ll have the opportunity to select new coverage during Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period. Those whose Medicare Advantage plans are eliminated may also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP), allowing guaranteed-issue rights to enroll in most Medigap plans if they choose to move with Original Medicare.
Who’s Affected
These changes primarily impact individuals enrolled in Medicare Advantage or standalone Part D prescription drug plans offered by private insurers. Original Medicare (Parts A and B) is not affected by these updates.
What you should do.
Review Your Coverage: During the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15-December7), evaluate your plan options and compare premiums, networks and drug coverage for 2026.
Check for Plan Notices: If your plan is ending, you’ll receive a notice from your insurer by early fall with details about your coverage and next steps.
Prepare for Costs: Be aware that premiums, copays, and out-of-pocket limits may change next year, especially if you switch carriers or plan types.
